

This fiction booklet portrays a day in the life of twelve species of birds common to Yaquina
Head’s rookery, beach, ocean and hill
s. Though fiction, the story accurately depict the daily
lives of these interesting birds.
The Bureau of Land Management manages the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area
in Newport Oregon on the Pacific Ocean. Oregon’s tallest lighthouse, a unique cobble
beach with fascinating tide pools, hills with panoramic beach views, and a spectacular
rookery create an outstanding site to observe birds.
Identification Table
This booklet includes an Identification Table for many species of birds found at the Yaquina
Head Outstanding Natural Area. The table ists the bird’s wingspans, length and weight, their
color and markings, where to find them, their eating habits, and other interesting comments.
